So, as promised, I've reviewed the information from the
Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and will now begin summarizing what was
revealed and expanded on. First up, is the much anticipated Nintendo WiiU, the
next home console from Nintendo.
Nintendo officially revealed that their next console, the Wii U, was in the
works in 2011 at E3 under the code name: Project Café and went through many different schemes and plans as it
evolved. As of last year, many different features of the Wii U had been
sporadically released and when it was Nintendo's turn to take the spotlight,
the Wii U in all its glory was revealed.
The Name:
The naming of the Wii U, although seeming just as strange as the original "Wii" name, is considered important because of how it relates to the original Wii and also expands upon what the Wii didn't have:
* The Wii U is the first gaming console in the Nintendo family to share its name with its predecessor (The Super NES was the first.)
* The Wii U is the first gaming console in the Nintendo family to share its name with its predecessor (The Super NES was the first.)
* The Wii U also looks similar to the Wii albet being sleeker,
smaller and rounder.
* The Wii U is also said to be backwards-compatible with the
original Wii as well as utilize the standard Wii-Mote as usable controllers.
The Hardware:
Since the GameCube, Nintendo has fallen into last place when it
comes to processing power and graphics. Microsoft's XBOX 360 features a
powerful hard-drive while the PS3 has been known to put a lot of data space
into making games sharp.
For better or for worse, however, the Nintendo Wii's graphics
were not very High Definition and weren't always the nicest to look at (but
that's ok when that data space is being used to make games fun instead)
***Now, rather than bore you non-computer guys to death with exact specifications, I'll just put the Wii U's hardware in general terms.***
The Wii U's CPU unit is a powerful microprocessor developed by IBM. It will house 8 gb Internal flash memory, expandable via SD memory cards and USB hard disk drives which will solve memory shortages that Wii gamers sometimes faced.
High definition graphics will be displayed and will hope to finally put Nintendo graphics on par with Microsoft and Sony. This new hardware has sparked some interest by many 3rd party companies who have shied away from the Wii because of its limitations.
The GamePad:
With tons of new features and a very innovative design, the Wii U's gamepad is better off being shown rather than read about.
Online Features:
Nintendo also promises an improved internet experience with Wii U. It appears that Nintendo is finally doing away with the Friend Code system and like the Nintendo 3DS, the Wii U will connect to the Nintendo Network. It will be connected to the eShop like the 3DS and have access to virtual data such as online downloadable games.
The Wii U will also support new video applications such as:
*Message Boards - where people can comment and ask questions about games

*Video Chatting - The Wii U controller acts as a web cam to allow video chat between Wii console friends
*Web Browsing - It is seriously updated on the Wii U and allows for searching both on the TV and the gamepad.

Wrap up:
Well, that concludes my recap on the Wii U. From what Nintendo has shown us, the Wii U may be just what Nintendo needs to regain the top spot as the strongest console and hope to retract the man "hardcore" gamers who had been turned off by Wii games. Stay tuned for more E3 new and other OWNAGE greatness.
